R v B – Pension Fraud London

4 month trial in 2024

Jury acquits defendant.

The client was accused of misleading investors and introducing them to a fraudulently operated investment company. The prosecution case was that investors had approached the client as the client and his associates had been involved in trading at the London Stock Exchange. They were all connected to the City of London financial services industry. The funds were used to purchase SIPP’s (self-invested pensions) before being used to purchase stock in a PLC.

The client was accused of being a middleman between, investors, financial advisors and the company directors. The prosecution accepted that shares had been purchased in companies but that the companies had been set up to facilitate the complex fraud that was being orchestrated and the shares were inherently worthless.

Following a four-month trial at Wood Green Crown Court in London, the jury convicted three defendants and acquitted our client.
